CHICAGO, ILLINOIS–(Marketwire – Oct. 21, 2009) – Solidifying its market-leading position in the carrier VoIP and Softswitch market and continuing its drive to help service providers boost network efficiencies, lower total cost of ownership and reduce subscriber churn, Nortel(1) (OTCBB:NRTLQ) Carrier VoIP and Application Solutions (CVAS) unveiled the latest enhancements of its state-of-the art Communication Server 2000 (CS 2000) carrier IP softswitch at the Supercomm(2) 2009 tradeshow.

Nortel CVAS has consistently ranked as the number one supplier in the carrier VoIP market since 2002. This success is the result of proven and leading-edge VoIP solutions: Business voice and multimedia solution, Consumer voice and multimedia solution, Transit and Multimedia Interconnect solution, and the Class 5 solution. These solutions have been successfully deployed across the globe to satisfy the needs of both the small and the large Service Providers deployments. The solutions are media agnostic, are fully featured with full PSTN transparency, can be deployed in either fully SIP or hybrid environments, are bundled with key capabilities to meet all VoIP networking and management requirements, and are fully tested out to the end points.

Nortel is introducing a new hardware platform, called the CS 2000a, which boosts service providers’ capacity in a smaller footprint, provides up to a 70 percent reduction in footprint and a 50 percent power savings compared to currently available platform options. Nortel’s CS 2000a enables service providers to handle peak call periods more efficiently because it supports call capacity in excess of 5 million Busy Hour Call Attempts (BHCA).

CS 2000a leverages Nortel’s widely deployed second generation carrier grade ATCA-based hardware platform coupled with its industry-leading middleware platform -the Versatile Service Engine (VSE). Nortel’s VSE platform is application agnostic and delivers a number of differentiators over and above ATCA platforms, such as easy migration of applications onto the platform while at the same time leveraging tight integration and coherent system management to deliver an industry leading proven six 9’s of reliability.

Nortel is also introducing the next software release, (I)CVM 14 of the CS 2000, which will unleash a powerful suite of advanced SIP applications that unify the communications experience for subscribers. These new SIP applications increase the service provider’s competitive advantage by allowing subscribers to communicate and collaborate with greater ease, flexibility and efficiency.

“Service providers around the globe depend on Nortel’s industry-leading CVAS solutions and these latest enhancements are proof of our continued investment to equip service providers with the means to improve network efficiencies, revenue potential and subscriber loyalty,” said Samih Elhage, president, CVAS, Nortel. “Nortel CVAS has a commanding first place leadership in the global carrier VoIP and softswitch market and we are making a quantum leap with the CS 2000 hardware and software enhancements introduced today. These enhancements mark our commitment to give service providers more network capacity, scalability and the power to deliver advanced SIP applications to subscribers.”

Highlights of the new CS 2000 hardware and software enhancements include:

- CS 2000a, based on Nortel’s carrier grade open-standards AdvancedTCA(TM) technology, helps service providers deal with OPEX challenges of today by providing call capacities in excess of 5 million BHCA, up to a 70 percent reduction in floorspace, and reduced services costs. Additional capacity can be added simply by enabling additional software RTU’s or through the addition of blade pairs within the ATCA shelf which helps eliminate the need for costly central office infrastructure upgrades. CS 2000a also allows service providers to perform integrated remote patching and upgrades across the platform and it’s applications reduce costly operational expenses. The greater degree of hardware integration reduces the amount of cabling and on-site installation effort and cuts deployment timelines up to six weeks.

- (I)CVM release 14 software features allowing service providers to deliver a wide variety of new SIP business applications including a Hosted Call Center feature for SIP terminals/clients; SIP mobile UC clients for easier end-user migration to SIP; extension of multimedia capabilities to subscribers behind SIP business trunks; support of DECT SIP terminals for residential services; remote provisioning of SIP terminals for faster deployments; and other OAM features to help carriers reduce costs. Nortel’s CS 2000 (I)CVM release 14 software will be available on Nortel’s CS 2000a and previously deployed CS2000 hardware platforms.

Nortel’s latest CS 2000 hardware and software enhancements are expected to be available in the second quarter of 2010. They will be demonstrated at Nortel’s Supercomm booth (#2120) in Chicago this week. For more information on Nortel at Supercomm, visitwww.nortel.com/events.

Nortel has shipped more than 115 million Carrier VoIP and Multimedia ports to more than 350 wireline and wireless carriers globally. According to Infonetics Research’s recent report, Service Provider VoIP Equipment and Subscribers Market Share, Size, and Forecasts – 2Q09, Nortel kept its global leadership position for carrier softswitches with 30.2 percent market share. Furthermore, according to Infonetics, during the second quarter of 2009, Nortel kept its position as the dominant softswitch supplier in both North America and EMEA. According to Dell’Oro, Nortel has consistently been ranked as the #1 Global Carrier VoIP and Softswitch leader since 2002. Nortel CVAS has customer deployments in all continents with leading carriers and provides VoIP solutions to two thirds of IDC’s worldwide listing of top 20 carriers (by revenue).

CashU provides merchants with a solution where they can sell their goods and services on the internet, including virtual products (such as cheap VoIP calling credit) or telephone services (DID local access numbers) that require micro payments. Merchants pay no setup or installation fees and integrating cashU is quick and simple.

This move is intended to strongly compete with other residential VoIP providers such as Skype, Vonage, Ooma, Betamax, Gizmo and Google Voice by giving users in Middle Eastern countries the capability to enjoy the benefits of Tpad VoIP where credit card penetration is extremely low. This is especially true for users in Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Nigeria, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, and the UAE.

Tpad users can now avoid use of the restricted credit card and opt for a safe, secure and readily available alternative from cashU. With cashU, users can purchase pay as you go VoIP credit, ranging from $5 to $20, affording potential customers a chance to test the high call quality of the Tpad VoIP network without committing to any over-priced long term monthly contracts.

Steven Johns, Brand Manager for Tpad, said: “Now with our strong partnership with cashU, we can let people in Middle Eastern countries finally benefit completely from the VoIP revolution. Using VoIP they can make free or low cost international calls at a fraction of the cost they are paying currently with their local telecom.”

In order for users to take advantage of using Tpad for making free or low cost international calls they first need to sign up for a free Tpad VoIP account, then download a free PC softphone (ZoIPer, Xlite or Express Talk) or use any SIP / VoIP compatible device (e.g. IP Phone, Linksys ATA, Nokia WiFi Mobile or even any standard mobile phone with the free Nimbuzz SIP software installed).

Users simply purchase cashU credit via a refill card from their local shop or reseller contact and enter their account details into the Tpad secure website. The full amount of the VoIP call credit will be instantly added to their Tpad account and unlike other VoIP providers such as Betamax; there are no hidden fees or transaction costs alongside the original purchased amount.

Johns continued: “The key to this partnership is to give the people in countries that don’t have the ability to process Mastercard or Visa cards the capability to buy online virtual products like VoIP calling credit. Tpad also benefits from this partnership with cashU as we don’t endure any expensive chargebacks and, due to the nature of the online transaction, fraud is virtually eliminated.”

Tpad have also recently launched 36 new local access DID (Direct Inward Dialling) numbers in Pakistan, with major regions like Lahore, Karachi, Multan and Gujrat covered. These free-to-use numbers allow anyone in Pakistan to call Tpad users around the world using a normal phone at just the cost of a local rate call.

Tpad is highly regarded in the VoIP industry for allowing less advanced countries to benefit from VoIP by giving them the ability to make unlimited international calls at just local rate prices direct from their home PSTN landlines or mobile phones.

As an example, someone living in Karachi, Pakistan can make an international call from a landline, using Tpad, to anywhere in Saudi Arabia and that will only cost them 1.7 rupees per minute (2 cent USD$). This call when not using Tpad access numbers would cost around 15 rupees per minute (18 cent USD$).

“We want to stress how easy it is for anyone to use Tpad VoIP and that you don’t need to own an expensive PC or costly internet service. You simply dial, using your normal phone, a local access telephone number for your region and the call will instantly land on your friend’s VoIP or SIP device and all you pay is for a local phone call. In addition to this great money-saving benefit, your friend receives the call for free no matter where they are or how long the call is,” said Johns.

About cashU (http://www.cashu.com):
Launched by Maktoob in July 2002, cashU is now available in 28 countries around the world. The cashU network connects hundreds of thousands of cashU cardholders, online and offline resellers as well as online businesses and merchants, and will continue to develop and advance rapidly.
CashU has provided the region with a key solution for e-commerce. cashU is a payment platform that is built upon and encapsulates the most sophisticated and up-to-date fraud prevention systems, reducing the risk of online payments and allowing for wider, safer and faster consumer participation in e-commerce.

About Tpad (http://www.tpad.com):
Tpad, the world’s most flexible communications company, offers next-generation telephony solutions for consumers and businesses.
You must have heard the news about VOIP Hacking. I covered the article about a couple of days back on this blog.Visit here http://vonagevoipcalls.blogspot.com

Some of the readers asked me to find a solution to this issue. So without any more wait, here is the solution to all those issues.

A software called Zfone is a secure VOIP phone software which lets you make secure encrypted phone calls over the Internet. Zfone lets you whisper in some one’s ear from a thousand miles away.

Zfone software runs in the Internet Protocol stack on any Windows XP, Mac OS X, or Linux PC, and intercepts and filters all the VoIP packets as they go in and out of the machine, and secures the call on the fly. You can use a variety of different software VoIP clients to make a VoIP call. The Zfone software detects when the call starts, and initiates a cryptographic key agreement between the two parties, and then proceeds to encrypt and decrypt the voice packets on the fly. It has its own little separate GUI, telling the user if the call is secure. It’s as if Zfone were a “bump on the wire”, sitting between the VoIP client and the Internet.

Zfone currently works with many VOIP service providers including X-Lite, Gizmo & SJphone and others like Free World Dialup, iptel.org, and SIPphone. However it doesnt support Skype, since Skype uses a closed proprietary protocol.Visit here http://vonagevoipcalls.blogspot.com

To Switch or Not to Switch Is VoIP Right For Your Business

VoIP. It’s the four-letter word you’ve heard of, read about, Visit here http://vonagevoipcalls.blogspot.com

and may have overlooked — until now. As VoIP’s consumer popularity hit an all-time high in 2006 — reaching more than 7 million subscribers in the United States alone — businesses of all sizes were forced to sit up and take notice. With possible cost savings of up to 40 percent, and the business VoIP industry projected to double by 2010, VoIP is one four-letter word that small and medium-sized business owners can no longer ignore.

How Does VoIP Work?

What exactly is VoIP and how do you know if it’s right for your business? VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol, allows callers to place phone calls from almost anywhere using a broadband Internet connection. As the acronym implies, VoIP works by transferring voice signals over Internet lines and public/private data networks, rather than traditional analog phone lines.

VoIP calls are placed using ordinary telephones, computers, or special VoIP phones, depending on the service provider and personal preference. VoIP users place calls in the same way they always have, simply by picking up the phone and dialing a number. Those with computer-based service place calls by using a headset or a computer microphone.

VoIP users can place local, long distance, and international calls to any phone number in the world, whether it’s a land-line, cell phone, or another VoIP user. Like traditional phone service, the only difference in placing a local call and an international call is cost.

Business VoIP Users Enjoy Cost Savings, Increased Flexibility

Today, most business owners switch to business VoIP for two primary reasons – significant cost savings and increased productivity. Typical business VoIP telephone system plans offer a low, flat monthly rate for local and long-distance calling. And, international calls typically cost just pennies per minute. The result: lower phone bills.

Beyond the bottom line, another feature that appeals to small and medium-sized business owners is the flexibility of business VoIP telephone services. As companies grow and change, business VoIP offers the ability to easily scale their phone system up or down. Companies that are planning to move offices or add users find business VoIP phone systems to be an effective solution, especially those with multiple employees in different locations.

Of course, one of the primary motivations to switch is the ability to eliminate the hidden fees and complex billing of traditional phone companies and gain more control over the phone system.

Calling Features Make Users More Productive

Many business VoIP telephone plans provide features such as three-way calling, voice mail and caller ID, at no additional charge. However, additional VoIP-specific features actually make employees more productive. According to a study conducted by Sage Research, VoIP features save employees an average of up to three hours per week.

These features include: 1) integration of voice mail and faxes with your e-mail system, 2) remote office features that allow satellite offices to function as part of the main office, 3) auto-attendant systems, and 4) call routing to employees regardless of location.

Even with these benefits, VoIP isn’t right for every business. For instance, voice quality can vary depending on the Internet connection. If your business uses a dial-up Internet connection, VoIP is probably not for you.

Because some firewall ports must be open in order to allow voice data transmission, another common issue is network security fears. The reality: it is often easier to tap in to a physical phone line than a digital line. And, listening in on VoIP transmissions is nearly impossible if the proper network security precautions are taken.Visit here http://vonagevoipcalls.blogspot.com

As one of the leading global suppliers of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services, Tpad today announced the addition of Google Checkout to their roster of online payment options for their consumer services division. Tpad is dedicated to providing their customers in 28 countries with low-cost, superior service call packages, and the addition of this payment option further enhances the convenience of purchasing their VoIP call credits online.

The benefits for Tpad and its customers are numerous, starting with an increased level of security – via this partnership with Google Checkout they can purchase the services they need at each billing period without entering their information each time. The Brand Director of Tpad, Steven Johns spoke about the decision to use Google Checkout:

“Tpad has exercised a comprehensive strategy in partnering with Google Checkout to provide more convenience to our customers in the UK, US and European countries. This will allow them to have access to VoIP services and make international calls at a fraction of the cost they are paying currently with their local telecom. During 2010, Tpad intends to continue our proactive approach to deliver cutting edge communication services to keep our customers on point and in touch at the lowest rates possible.” Johns continued: “As more consumers discover the advantages of VoIP, Tpad has revamped its service offerings to ensure that consumers enjoy the same level of convenience as our business customers. “

Tpad’s strategy is also in direct response to the need to differentiate their brand from the competition in the residential VoIP marketplace by addressing the needs of consumers who shop frequently online and want to further enhance the security level of their transactions. Using Google Checkout allows them to purchase their services from Tpad in addition to thousands of other merchants without exposing their credit card information. In addition, customers can keep track of their online purchases from Tpad and their other Google Checkout transactions as well.

Tpad has made it easy to access these savings; customers simply register for a free Tpad VoIP account. Once you verify your email, log in with your 7 digit Tpad number and password. You can select the level of credits you want to purchase and when you click the Google Checkout button you will be taken to the Google secure website to complete your purchase.

If customers have a SIP or VoIP compatible device such as an IP phone, Google Android phone, Apple i-Phone, Nokia Wi-Fi Mobile or Linksys ATA , they can access the service as well. Consumers and Tpad both benefit from this payment option; for consumers they can purchase just the amount they need without any hidden transaction fees or being tied to a long-term commitment and Tpad is able to further enhance its level of customer care.

Voice-over-Internet Protocol or more simply VoIP is a term used in telephony for a set of facilities for managing the delivery of voice information using the Internet Protocol (IP). It is a technique that allows voice traffic to be transported across an IP-based data network or the Internet instead of on the traditional circuit-switched network. The voice signal is sampled, compressed and encapsulated into data packets to allow it to be switched, routed and bridged along with all other data packets across the Local and Wide area network. Benefit of a VOIP service which gives you even more flexibility over your phone lines is that you are able to add extra phone lines without having to have another line installed. This can happen as VOIP uses the internet to make calls so the only requirement is the bandwidth, so it is wise to have a fast internet connection as this will make using the VOIP service even easier

Is VOIP difficult to install? Not at all. Part of the rollout of VOIP has been the easy to install nature of it. You can have a VOIP connection running in under a half hour, even if you’re not technically inclined. Sure, it’s more complicated than an analog phone, but it can do a lot more too!

Installation Process: When installing a VoIP system, businesses will have a telephone system already installed. It is important to ask the VoIP provider if they can integrate the VoIP system with the old system so there will not be any interruptions in daily operations. You should ask if there will be any hardware that you have to buy.

VoIP Quality: Businesses rely on a reliable and high quality phone system. Your provider should be able provide a system that delivers dependable and continuous service. The quality of voice should be clear and audible. You may need additional connections and switches to ensure high quality.

Security: A VoIP provider should be able to tell you about their security features. If you need additional security, they should be able to tell you what to buy and where to buy it.

Training: The VoIP provider should provide training to your employees. If they do not provide training, you should find another provider.

Maintenance: Find out if the provider has to perform maintenance on-site or if they can they do it remotely. You should also inquire about vendor uptime and how they resolve power outages.

Customer Support: Find out about the provider’s customer service response. Can your reach them by phone 24 hours a day or do you have to contact them by email?

Because VoIP saves money, increases productivity, and boosts profitability, more businesses are switching to VoIP for their communication needs. One of the main reasons why businesses switch to VoIP is to cave money on phone calls. Traditional phone services tend to be quite high compared to VoIP. With so many business VoIP providers available, it can often be difficult to find the best provider for your business. If you want a best VOIP provider then one of the best ways to do it is by using a VOIP service from Venom IT.

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) represents the biggest change in the telecom industry in years, and its deployment is bringing dramatic changes to how businesses operate on a day to day basis. Its rich feature set has allowed smaller companies to gain access to high-end features, and and its low cost and collaborative technologies has ushered in a new era of collaboration across great distances. But despite the many advantages, there is still resistance to its deployment, largely due to a few incorrect misperceptions about the technology and the industry. Here are a few of these myths:

VoIP is less secure. It is incorrect to believe that standard PSTN(Regulard Analog Line) telephony is absolutely secure—anyone with physical access to the wire can easily tap into your calls. VoIP, as an Internet-based technology, does have security issues of its own, but these have been addressed with new technologies, encryption, and VoIP-compatible firewalls.
Sound quality is poorer than the PSTN. Again, not true. Early VoIP implementations did indeed suffer from poor sound quality, jittery calls and dropped connections, although VoIP experts have expended a great deal of energy and capital in its development. Call quality for VoIP is now equivalent to that of the PSTN.

Reliability is poorer than the PSTN (Regular Analog Line). The incidence of dropped calls, or inability to place a call during peak times was a real concern during the early days of VoIP, but these too have been addressed with new reliability techniques, prioritization schemes for VoIP packets, and more widespread use of high-bandwidth Internet connections.

VoIP is only useful when calling other offices with the same system. This is still a common myth and one that is absolutely incorrect. With most VoIP systems, you can place a call to anyone, anywhere in the world, regardless of what type of phone system they use, even to mobile phones.

Switching to VoIP requires a major capital investment. A hosted system requires no capital investment at all, and an on premises system does not usually call for any greater capital expenditure than you would have with a standard phone system.
You still need PSTN lines when with a VoIP deployment. There is no reason to maintain PSTN lines if you are using VoIP. All of your telephony needs can be met with the VoIP system.

You can’t send a fax over VoIP. Fax-over-IP has become very common and is highly efficient, offering greater quality and convenience than standard analog fax devices.
You need to make your calls through a computer. Computer-to-computer or computer-to-phone calls can certainly be made easily, but you don’t need to have a computer at your desk to make a VoIP call.

It’s only for small companies. In fact, companies of all sizes are moving to VoIP, and larger companies use it to great advantage not only for their office phone system, but also to establish convenient links between branch offices.

VoIP vendors are still too new to be reliable. The market is full of providers, both new and established—and many established telecom providers that have been in business for decades are now rolling out VoIP offerings.

How to Choose a VOIP Phone Service Provider

Everything is going digital these days… cell phones, cable, radio, and now TV.Visit here http://vonagevoipcalls.blogspot.com

So, if anyone thinks that traditional landline phone service is here to stay, then they are kidding themselves. VoIP phones service is slowly taking the place of traditional phone service and soon traditional phone service will become obsolete; the question is not if, but when.

Not all VoIP phone service providers are created equal and it is important to know what to look for when choosing a VoIP phone service provider.

Consider how many and what type of calls you make.

Most VoIP phone services cost between $25 and $40 per month for unlimited local and long-distance calls in the U.S., and many include Canada, Puerto Rico, and US Virgin Islands. Most cable companies that offer VoIP service cost $5 to $10 more per month than VoIP specialized companies like 5 linx (Globalinx) and Vonage.

Some VoIP phone service providers have lower international rates than others, so make sure that you check out the company’s international fees for the countries that you will be calling.
Also, be sure to determine the costs you will pay for international cell phone calls, which are not included even in all-inclusive international calling plans.

Consider if the VoIP phone service provider sells VoIP phones.
Having a VoIP phone is very beneficial because you can take your phone wherever you go (even outside of your country), hook it up to a high-speed internet connection and instantly make and receive phone calls. Your phone number goes with the phone so you do not have to worry about forwarding a number.

Find out if the VoIP service provider offers E911

VoIP service providers are compatible with what is known as E911.

The major difference between E911 and 911 is that with 911 the dispatcher automatically knows where you are calling from, but with E911 they have to go by the location that is on file with your VoIP service provider.

Make sure that when you move, you update your new address with your service provider. Also make sure that you activate E911 with your service provider when you receive your VoIP phone.
Keep in mind that E911 availability depends on your location, so you’ll have to verify availability with your service provider. Unfortunately not all VoIP phone services are compatible with E911, but most cable companies that offer VoIP phone service and independent companies such as Vontage, and 5 Linx (Globalinx) are compatible with E911

Hidden costs

Most VoIP phone services include an adapter, but not all do, so be sure to check when comparing plans. Many services charge fees up-front for setup and/or shipping equipment.

Local number portability

Most companies allow customers to keep their original phone number, although sometimes it is not possible depending on the local service. Some services do not allow this at all.

Compatibility with other equipment and services

For now, not all home security systems, TiVo boxes and satellite TV receivers work with VoIP. That is why you may want to consider a VoIP service provider that has teemed up with other wireless and digital service providers to give you the option of having digital services that work along with their VoIP service.

5 linx (Globalinx) is the only VoIP service provider that offers a security system through Protect America (a leader in wireless security systems) that is completely compatible with their VoIP service. 5 linx has also partnered with Dish Network and Direct TV to give you more options to use with their service.

Multiple lines

Multiple-line options are limited, since most services only allow one line per converter box, but some services have multi-line offers that are excellent for businesses that want to switch over to VoIP phone service.

Fax compatibility

Not all services support adding a fax machine. AT&T CallVantage, for example, does support fax machines. Vonage and 5 linx however, charge an extra $10 a month for a separate fax line. Check first if this is important to you.Visit here http://vonagevoipcalls.blogspot.com
